Making DEXCell stronger and even more available for your energy projects

Thanks to our over 200 partners and more than 1,000 clients, DEXMA is growing and so is our energy management software: DEXCell Energy Manager.

We take your data seriously. Due to this, DEXMA is upgrading its system infrastructure.

We will be working hard the next 2 months to make upgrades that will make DEXCell Energy Manager stronger and more reliable.

What are we doing?

We’re changing the datacenter where our servers are hosted and, as a result, the IP addresses of DEXCell Energy Manager will change as well.

This won’t be a change made in one day. In the following weeks we will work on the migration of our services to the new IPs.

Why are we doing this?

Our new hosting provider will add several improvements to our network. This changes will impact:

  • Availability of DEXCell Energy Manager. As you know, DEXCell is a 24×7 tool, but due to our current infrastructures we have experienced short service outages in the past. This will be better with our new cloud services.
  • Speed in our development cycles. Being in a cloud datacenter will allow our development team to be more efficient in creating new features and deploying them to the production servers faster.
  • Tidying things up. Just like when you move to a new house, moving to a new datacenter is an opportunity to organize servers and applications in a different way. These are improvements that we have wanted to do for months, but they required IP changes, so now we are ready to make them.

In other words, this change means better service for you!

How does this affect you?

DEXCell does not change at all. You’ll keep having access to your loved tools through the same URLs as always (www.dexcell.com) 🙂

If your local network does not have outbound restrictions, which is the case of 99% of our users, you will not be affected by this changes, so you won’t have to do anything in your systems and you won’t notice the change.

BUT keep reading…

Do I have to do anything?

Some of our clients and partners have restricted access to external IPs. This mostly affects hardware installed on-site, where the gateways make use of the local IT network, and the access to external servers is restricted.

To check if this is your case, please contact your IT department and send them this post.

As you can see in the table below, the domains nor the ports change, but their underlying IP addresses DO change:

Domain Description Current IP address New IP address
www.dexcell.com DEXCell web interface 188.40.70.142 104.155.94.152
api.dexcell.com DEXCell API 188.40.70.142 104.155.94.152
insert.dexcell.com Data insertion endpoint (v2) 148.251.184.103 104.155.73.171
is2.dexcell.com Data insertion endpoint (v2) 148.251.184.103 104.155.73.171
is3.dexcell.com Data insertion endpoint (v3) 188.40.70.142 104.155.73.171
ftp.dexcell.com FTP integration service 188.40.141.200 104.155.73.171

In order to make a smooth transition please do the following steps:

  1. Do NOT remove the current IP addresses from your firewall’s whitelist, make sure they are still accessible.
  2. Add the new IP addresses to your whitelist
  3. Once we finish the migration, we will notify you again, so you can remove the current IP addresses from your whitelists.

Please remind that this will only apply to very few of our users!

We strongly recommend you to access DEXCell through the domains which we can ensure that will never change.

When will the changes take place?

The complete migration is estimated to be finished by April the 1st 2016.

This means that you will need to have your network updated before that date. The sooner, the better!

As we update this work, we will post updates in our Twitter account @DEXMA and our blog so you can follow along. We will also update our support site with any future changes that affect our support articles.
